Art 334. iMovie

Aritsts Statement

For my iMovie I attempted to illustrate the lack of awareness of the happenings of nature in the too familiar business in the lives of the people in todays society.  It can relate to many people in many ways, but my hope is that it is relatable on some kind of a spiritual level. It can relate to the idea of someone who is in a spiritual slumber, and who needs to wake up to their spiritual calling. It can also relate to the idea of learning lessons taught through nature, although lessons from nature can only be taught if one is paying attention to them. I choose to use the sounds from the recordings, which the camera picked up, to give the movie a naturalistic experience and the ability to focus on the experiences of the imagery rather then on a song or other sound affects.  I choose to reverse the day of the person with the intentions of getting the viewer to ponder the idea that each day can be chosen to be lived differently and doesn’t have to be lived with a sort of stagnancy that comes without adventure and without going beyond the boundaries of the average day.  Ones life can be lived thinking about the past, pondering the future, or in the moments which we live within.

  1. Truly and artsy video, I like the concept of each day lived differently. We are never the same, always changing.

  2. your lesson plan sounds like it will be affective and conceptual. make sure to be specific with your big idea of spirituality.

Your short film was very effective with the sounds of everyday life. the nature sounds were very intriguing. I think it worked well with you footage. Good Job!

  3. Hey Des, you're movie was a good representation of your life. it made me nervous of you driving and filming though, be careful! Somedays we may try to rewind our days so I think that you rewound it was a really good. I wish the nature would've connected to the videos of you more so. but great job, especially since you had to redo it all!

  4. I think your lesson plan seems really interesting. Make sure you define spirituality so students don't just think of Christianity.

imovie. I love the interplay of nature and the busy world we live in and then the reflective time of our day as we go to sleep.

  5. The ending of your movie was a little unexpected! How you rewinded the film and ending at the beginning definitely changed the overall meaning of the movie. Its almost like you forced the viewer to reanalyze what happened during the day...and to think about what nature has to do with it. Your comparisons between technology and nature were also effective for expressing your big idea. Nice job! :)

  6. Your movie was a little creepy to me. I really enjoyed the tension you created by having the natural static and quiet as your sound. I think the static quality of the image worked well with the tension as well.
As far as your concept goes, I like it a lot. However, I think the additions or changes you discussed in class would have been beneficial to your film.

  7. i liked how i was so engaged the whole time during your movie. it made me think about how much we just live our day to day lives without embracing it. i think a good choice in music would help your movie out

  8. I really liked the concept of the movie. I especially like how it rewinds itself and leaves the viewer to imagine how you would spend the day if you could redo it.
the only negative comment i have is that I wish you would have made the difference between the colorful world and the bland black and white lifestyle more apparent. A lot of the nature stuff was fairly bland in color themselves so it took me a while to actually realize that there was a difference in color in the film. I really like the idea of doing that though, it drives home the idea of the possibility of a day and then the blandness of what we usually choose to do everyday.

  9. Hi Desi!
I really like your iMovie, but I'm not sure I understood the spiritual connotations from it - I thought it was more about nature and how we underestimate its powers. I really like the reverse at the end - I think it works well with your idea of being able to control your moments and what you do each day.

  10. The movie works as an interesting abstract piece without the knowledge of your statement. I like the way things meshed together and yet seemed so separate, that working off your idea. I like the different changes in visuals but that also seems to disconnect the movie itself a little too much. As a movie I really enjoyed it and at times it seemed pretty creepy.
